GREENING - GREEN TIPS - RECYCLING BINS - BACK

Going Green in South Buffalo

What is greening? It is simply the process of changing an item, an area, a business, or even an idea, into a more environmentally friendly version of it! The green movement tries to meet society’s needs in a sustainable way- meeting our needs and wants without hurting or irreversibly damaging our natural resources. Green technology insures that not only can we meet our needs, but future generations will be able to meet their needs too.

Green products generally:

-have reduced toxicity

-are easier to re-use

-are energy efficient

-have less packaging, using more sustainable materials

-are often made from recycled materials

-are manufactured in a more environmentally friendly manner

Greening has also brought about a lot of innovation. Not only are we manufacturing goods differently, but we’re manufacturing different goods too. While a lot of the greening movement is about finding new ways to make what we’ve been making, greening is also about finding more environmentally friendly alternatives to the technologies we’re already using- from alternatives to pesticides to alternatives to oil.

Alternate energy sources aren’t the only industries getting a green face-lift. We’re making buildings green by choosing better building materials and weatherizing the buildings we already have. We’re producing food in more environmentally friendly ways with organic foods that cut down on pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers and artificial hormones. Even less visible industries are changing. For instance, the Chemical production industry is working on processing to reduce or eliminate damaging chemical byproducts.

As you can see, Greening is a big topic that effects just about every area of our life. We’re going to explore greening further in this blog, especially those areas that help your home and your wallet, so stay tuned!
